Coast Guard To Idle Ships

Four Coast Guard cutters will be decommissioned at the Naval Station here, the Coast Guard reported today.

The vessels have been on Pacific stations serving as weather ships, navigational aids and rescue vessels. The decommissioning is caused by a Coast Guard appropriations cut and follows similar action in the Atlantic Fleet, a spokesman said.

The four are the Vance, Durant, Lansing and Ramsden.

Their officers and crew will be sent to other ships and stations.
